What you need to know about criminal justice architecture before you build
Project: Winchester Police Station & Jail

Location: Winchester, Kentucky

The City of Winchester needed a new facility to house their Police Department and Detention Center.   The existing facility was not of sufficient size or condition to accommodate the ever-expanding police force.   The design of the Police Department within this building was required to complement the historical architecture of the urban fabric that is predominate in the community.   The new facility included the following components:

  • Public Lobby
  • Secure Dispatch
  • Interview Rooms
  • Holding Cells
  • Property Storage
  • Evidence Storage
  • Offices
  • Showers / Lockers
  • Conference Rooms
  • Training Rooms
  • Fitness Room
  • Sally Port
  • Detective Offices
  • Chief's Offices
  • Booking Area

The Police Department is approximately 15,000 square feet. The building was constructed on-time and within budget at a cost of approximately $3 million.
