What you need to know about criminal justice architecture before you build
Project: Trigg County Justice Center

Location: Cadiz, Kentucky

The proposed project consists of the design and construction of a new free-standing judicial facility to meet the current and future program needs of the court system.   The proposed site is the existing Trigg County Courthouse site located in downtown Cadiz on Main and Jefferson Streets and bounded by intersecting Monroe and Court Streets.

The site is generally flat at the Main Street level but then slopes down considerably to the rear of the site.   The topography of the site allows for a lower level entrance for staff and for the Sally Port access.   All necessary utilities including electric, gas, water and sanitary sewer are readily available at the site.   Storm water sewers do not exist.

The building space program allocation includes one district court, one family court and one circuit court with related judges' chambers, jury rooms and related support spaces.   Also included is space for a law library; prisoner handling; grand jury; Circuit Clerk offices; Court designated Worker; Pre-trial Services and Drug Court.

The site development will include fenced and gated secure judges parking and limited parking for the court staff and parking for the public at an adjacent off site parking area.   A vehicle drop-off area will be provided at the front entry along Main Street to unload passengers before moving on to park.   The building will be set back off Main Street and Jefferson Street to create spaces for a monumental front courtyard at Main Street and at the rear along Jefferson Street the setback will provide space for limited parking, trash disposal and Sally Port access.   Additionally, the two side streets Monroe and Court will be closed to vehicular traffic and reduced in width to create a pedestrian plaza.   Limited vehicular access will be allowed for deliveries and emergency vehicles.

Landscaping will be provide to create inviting pedestrian areas and for existing commemorative monuments to be placed.   The closing of the streets will also provide another level of security to prevent vehicular access to the building.
