Project:
Three Forks Regional Detention Center Renovation
Location:
Beattyville, Kentucky
The
Three Forks Regional Jail is a 154-bed full-service, standard compliant
regional jail housing male and female adult offenders. This
is a single story 26,000 square foot building housing all inmate
classifications including detoxification and secure holding spaces.
Inmate supervision type is indirect, with the control room
located near all housing to easily view a majority of the male inmate
housing areas.
Included
in this facility are programming spaces, i.e., 2 classrooms, 2 multi-purpose
rooms, 2 outdoor recreation areas, a visitation area and an exceptionally
large dayroom. Program and support spaces were oversized
to allow for future expansion of the facility.
This
is a unique jail in that it is a “true” regional jail. This
is the only second such jail constructed in Kentucky , the other
one is the Big Sandy Regional Jail located in Paintsville which
was also designed by DCI + CMW. A true regional jail is one
in which two or more counties come together and form a legally binding
Regional Jail Authority Board to provide funding, design direction,
and operational direction of a jail to be used by each of the participating
Counties. The Three Forks Regional Jail is owned jointly
by Lee, Owsley and Wolfe Counties . As the full service architect
and engineering firm on this Project, we were involved with every
aspect from early feasibility studies, through programming and design,
to meeting with representatives from each of the three Counties
in developing the qualifications necessary for proper staffing and
operational requirements of the facility. Further, we assisted
with the evaluation of the Project and construction budgets and
represented the design component of the Project with the Jail Authority
in meeting before the State Department for Local Government.
