What you need to know about criminal justice architecture before you build
Project: Mason County Justice Center

Location: Maysville, Kentucky

This project is a two-story courts facility, housing a district and circuit courtroom, judges chambers, jury deliberation facilities and grand jury, circuit clerk offices and holding rooms.   The building is located across the street from the original historic Mason County Courthouse and reflects upon the architectural style of that, and other important historic buildings in the immediate neighborhood.   Among the traditional icons of American courthouse architecture, this building includes a cupola, massive columns and steps leading to a formal grand entry.   Less commonly seen are the “stepped parapets” of this building, a feature commonly found in old Maysville, but very unusual elsewhere.
