What you need to know about criminal justice architecture before you build
Project:   Green River Correctional Facility

Location: Central City, Kentucky

Construction began on this new 55,000 square foot facility in March 1998.   Located in Central City, Kentucky, it is a two-story, medium-security male dormitory, initially planned to house 314 inmates.   It is designed to accommodate future growth, with the inclusion of roughed-in cells that can be completed when funding is available.

Prompted by poor soil conditions within the confines of the prison's perimeter fence, the new dorm was initially located outside the previous security perimeter.   This site planning resulted in several advantages, including better soil conditions, minimal disruption to the daily operations of the existing prison, and reduced construction time and cost due to the elimination of contractor security check points.   Upon completion, the security perimeter was extended to encompass this facility.
