What you need to know about criminal justice architecture before you build
Project: Bourbon County Detention Center

Location: Paris, Kentucky

This one story, 78-bed facility in Paris, Kentucky is a full service facility designed to hold adult male and female inmates in maximum, medium and minimum custody levels. Included in the facility are support, programming, administrative, laundry and kitchen areas that are oversized to allow for future expansion.

Project mobilization began in 1989 with the consideration by the Bourbon County Fiscal Court of two proposed building sites. Upon final site selection, the design phase began in early 1990. Early in the design phase, the Owner elected to revise the construction delivery approach from a general contractor format to a construction management format. Construction started in late 1991 and was completed on schedule with confinement beginning in early 1993.

CMW worked closely with the Bourbon County Fiscal Court and the Jailer to resolve the requirements of the specific building type and effectively satisfy the owner's need to limit and control the final project cost. The opportunities of the site and the program are maximized in an efficient layout that provides for ease of operations, good sight lines and the potential for future expansion.
